If you’re one that would like to have ceramic tile but are worried about cold feet, well no need to worry any more. Products like those produced by Nuheat can provide warm underfoot comfort for ceramic tile, engineered hardwood, laminate and vinyl flooring. Nuheat manufactures a mat system that comes in a wide variety of premade sizes including a 32”x 32” mat for shower stalls. Nuheat can also furnish custom mats to handle curves and angles in just a matter of a few days. These mats are 1/8” thick and are installed beneath the flooring. Nuheat also makes a cable system.

Nuheat’s system comes in 120 volt and 240 volts and is controlled by a variety of thermostats to handle different situations. These systems are UL listed and CSA approved. The mats use approximately 12 watts per sq.ft. that produces temperatures of 80° - 90° F, making them very efficient. With engineered hardwood or laminate flooring the temperature should no exceed 82° F. The system carries a 25-year warranty.

Considerations

When installing a Nuheat system you will need to coordinate your installation with your floor installer and an electrician. The electrician will be responsible for the thermostat connections. You must also consider the overall thickness of your new floor. The installation of the Nuheat system itself will increase the thickness at least 3/8^th . When installing ceramic tile it requires a double subfloor system no less than 1-1/4”. These thicknesses will influence the transition height with adjoining rooms. Be sure to discuss this with your flooring estimator before moving forward.
